About the project...

All research and observations highlight the coexistence of several legal systems in the African continent. This multijuralism is a consequence of the meeting of several state and sub-state sources of law with various legal cultures (ancestral customs, Islamic law, Islamic customs, modern law inherited from the French, Belgian, Portuguese, etc. .).

This sub-project, managed by the University Montesquieu-Bordeaux IV, the Research Centre GRECCAP, and its components CERCCLE and CERDRADI, combines research on property systems and crisis management in various countries in Africa to establish an overview of the competition between standards, identify how national authorities representing state legitimacy manage this legal pluralism, and evaluate the ways of managing the diversity of rights in the situations studied.
