FIRST INTEGRATION REPORT ON CUSTOMARY ADOPTION PRACTICES IN UASHAT MAK MANI-UTENAM

The team led by Mrs. Christiane Guay and Mr. Sébastien Grammond prepared the first Integration Report that briefly presents some customary adoption practices in Uashat mak Mani-Utenam.

The research aims to shed new lights on the Innu customary adoption practices by using a refined research method adapted to the Aboriginal context by the researchers leading this subproject. This subproject aims at:

  • highlighting the existence and analyzing the content of the Innu adoption practices in Uashat mak Mani-Utenam;
  • Determining the legal and institutional frameworks that promote an internormativity of coordination between the Innu legal order and the state legal order.

The report presents the research methodology used and the dynamics between the indigenous system in customary adoption and the existing state system.
