MRS EVA OTTAWA APPOINTED TO THE PRESIDENCY OF THE COUCIL OF STATUS OF WOMEN

The Quebec Government announced on Thursday, September 8th 2016 the appointment of Mrs. Eva Ottawa as President of the Council Status of Women.

 

Mrs. Ottawa was also appointed to the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse in April 2015 and Grand Chief President of the Council of the Atikamekw Nation from 2006 to 2013.

She is a lawyer by training and she holds a BA in Sociology. Mrs. Ottawa has held various positions in the Council of the Atikamekw Nation and the Atikamekw Commission before being a member of the negotiating team of the Aboriginal Nation.

Before the recent appointment, Mrs. Ottawa was a consultant for the educational services of the Manawan Atikamekw Council.

Member of the Executive Committee of the State and Indigenous Legal Cultures: Law in Search of Legitimacy Project, Mrs. Ottawa, said that she was "honored by this appointment," and thinks her personal and professional background contributed to this nomination.

The project team would like to congratulate Mrs. Ottawa for this appointment and wish her a great success in the defense and promoting of women interests in Quebec.
