Mr. Raphaël Mapou is an important Kanak partner of the Legitimus project, and the first to express himself in a series of interviews titled “Indigenous Perspectives”. These short interviews aimed to offer to our Indigenous partners the opportunity to talk about one or several topics. They were conducted during the Second Team Meeting, held in Montreal last October.

In a similar manner, during the meeting, a round table was set to give the opportunity to our Indigenous partners to exchange their thoughts and experiences. The activity was one of the highlights of the event, and excerpts of the discussion will be published on Legitimus.ca in the future.

Mr. Mapou is linked to the Pacific Group, more specifically to the group directed by prof. François Féral. He chose to spoke to us about the Kanak philosophy and the reasons why his people are extremely interested in the Legitimus project. He also addressed preoccupations which he believes link all Indigenous peoples around the globe, and the utmost importance of the oral tradition, despite the fact that writing is becoming more and more preeminent in their communities.

The interview can be watched below. It is only available in French at the moment. Follow our YouTube chain to make sure you do not miss our upcoming videos!
